Now that all the major preparation is done all we need to do is gather the kits and the snacks and get ready for our Crafty Staycation!

For snacks I have the following:

How to plan the perfect craft staycation

I have spent all day working on the perfect schedule for my craft staycation. As mentioned in my previous blog post, the first step is to actually make a list of all the projects that you wish to make during your staycation and to estimate the amount of time they will take. I am extremely fond of all sort of papercraft. From scrapbooking and altered art to mixed media and mini books. This is why my craft

Ethnic and Artsy Digital Downloads!

It seems like computers are taking over the world! Everywhere you go there they are…being an engineer by profession I guess I can’t avoid them and so it seems the best course of action is to embrace them and try to find ways to use technology in my hobby! Of course we have all heard of the cricut expression and I am sure most of us have fallen in love with it, it is one of many ways in which technology has helped crafters…there is also lots of software to help us make the most of our art and to help us share it with one another…which brings me to the subject of this post….Digital Downloads!

My Book 2009 Part 1

I love to scrapbook and make altered books and I have recently added ATCs to that list! So when I wanted to make a sort of a journal/scrapbook/altered book to record my life in 2009 I was a little confused about the format and material I would put in there.

I have been reading how many artists keep journals and books to try out different art/craft techniques, or how an altered book artist keeps one book just as a test canvas (sometimes that book itself turns out to be a piece of art!).

A Creative Saturday!

dsc01037dsc01025

Since school is going to start soon I took this Saturday off as a day for “creating”! I have joined a few ATC groups recently and there was a long debate about fabric ATCs on one of them. Having read many different ways of dealing with fabric, and seen some gorgeous work done by other artists, I armed myself with fabric scraps, ribbons, beads, glue, paint, card and some needles and thread. Laying everything all around me (this is the only way I can work, in a mess =) )I picked up a piece of fabric and started. I created a collage of fabric and it was so much fun. I tried

Bringing Children and Books Together…

Many are the worlds that take their color from booksThat is what the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) strives to do. They are an international organization with national chapters in numerous countries. Recently IBBY Pakistan launched a campaign to promote reading amongst children in Pakistan. They wanted to design very unusual, colorful and attractive posters that would bring children closer to books.

I was lucky to have the opportunity to design this set of five posters. They needed to be out of the ordinary and so I used altered art techniques.

Who knew it would take me all of one week to get hooked onto ATCs and Art Dolls! Well I have  fallen in love with this craft, not only that, I am also enjoying connecting with other artists via different art groups. Another reason why these on line groups are so cool is that you get to trade ATCs and participate in swaps. This is pretty crucial as ATCs stand for Artist ‘Trading’ Cards =).  I have just mailed some  Continue reading

Artist Trading Cards

Imagine

Imagine

I have been very lazy over these winter holidays and  have come to the conclusion that I need deadlines to function =). Well one way to overcome that hurdle was to join an art group. After much research I have joined an Artist Trading Card group and have just finished my first batch of ATCs using tissue paper and foam!

I strongly urge all of you out there interested in collage and mixed media to try their hand at ATCs. The Artist Trading Card Workshop be Bernie Berlin is an excellent book to get you started, but let me warn you…ATCs are extremely addictive =)…
