Here is a card I made using leftovers or upcycled materials as I like to call them 🙂 Read on to learn how to make a similar card from scraps of paper, ribbons and soda cans!
Materials:
- Plain card with an envelope
- Pieces of aluminum cut out from soda cans
- Double sided tape
- Leftover scraps of decorative paper – A solid blue and 2 blue patterned papers
- Pieces of leftover ribbon in two different shades of blue
- Cuttlebug Snowflake embossing folder
- Cuttlebug Stamp die
Cut the solid blue paper ¼ inches shorter than the card on all sides. That means that the blue solid piece will be ½ inch shorter in both length and breadth than the front of the card. The patterned blue paper will be cut 1 inch shorter than the length and breadth of the card front. Layer the plain blue and patterned paper on the front of the card and use double sided tape to secure them to each other. Don’t secure them both to the card just yet
Next up die-cut three pieces of aluminum using the Cuttlebug stamp die and emboss then using the Cuttlebug snowflake die. Then use another blue patterned paper to layer the aluminum pieces on top of. Secure them to each other using double sided tape. Now make two holes using a punch on all three pieces as shown in the picture.
Next up add the two ribbons to all three pieces as shown in the picture. Thread in through one end and out the other.
Now add all the pieces to the card in a vertical line. Secure the ribbon to the back of the solid blue paper. Now secure the whole finished front to the white base card. You’re done!
Cut out pieces in batches to make this an easy card to produce in quantities. Not only do you get amazingly beautiful Christmas cards for everyone on your list, but you actually help reduce the number of soda cans you toss into the trash. In order to make each card look different, you can go through your paper scraps and ribbon stash and choose different background papers and ribbons and use the same embossed pieces on top.

I really liked how the card turned out. Today, I had received a newsletter from a creative income site which it’s advising us crafters to upcycle more and to go creatively green. I do not throw anything out. I look at things twice and have to figure out what can I do with it before the landfill decides for me. People often tell me I have a sick mind and times they can not believe what I have come out with. I sleep, eat and talk craft. Love crafting and inventing.
